After a year or so of coding and editing, the new BuyAustinArt is up and running! Originally the plan for this site was to be kind of a micro-Etsy for Austin and the surrounding cities like Round Rock, Buda, Manor, etc… but what we learned is that many people are already established on whatever site they’re selling on. Some people like Etsy. Some find it easier to add shopping features to their already popular Instagram profile and others are totally independent and run on Shopify. We can see what a pain it would be to have to maintain two shops. So, we decided to simplify things and create a directory where everyone can send BuyAustinArt visitors to their own sites.
Another thing we felt was missing was a community generated event calendar focused only on the Austin art scene. The music community has ShowListAustin.com and pretty much everything ends up listed on Do512 but it takes some filtering and scrolling if you’re looking for something specific. Hopefully we’ve created a simple tool to help local artists promote their work and events. Because without art, the world would be pretty boring.
